I couldn't have possibly been more wrong with my gown predictions. My choices closest to the truth were a red gown for Rosamund Pike and Dior for Marion Cotillard, but that is so obvious it doesn't even counts. In retrospect I guess it is a good thing that all my predictions were wrong; the red carpet just was one full of pleasant surprises! Many unexpected choices of designer, colour and type of dress. Here are my 10 choices for The Oscars Best Dressed List.
Rosamund Pike saved the best for last and looked stunning in custom Givenchy Haute Couture. I think her dressing was a bit underwhelming all season long, but this red, lacy beauty hits all the right marks. I would go as far as saying that she was THE best dressed.
Julianne Moore wore a custom Chanel Couture gown that took a staggering 987 hours to create. She looked as gorgeous as she has done all through the season, but took me by surprise with the choice for Chanel. The gown is so different from all of the other Award show gowns she has recently worn, yet it is a perfectly fitting choice for the biggest night of all.
Where Julianne Moore choose for Chanel, did Mademoiselle Chanel herself Keira Knightley, wear Valentino Haute Couture. I do think however this was the right choice. Knightley and Valentino are a match made in heaven. She has proven it before and she did it again yesterday night.
Like Keira, Cate Blanchett didn't wear a gown from her employer - Armani in her case - as well. She opted for Maison Margiela Couture instead. I think it is one of those brave choices Blanchett is known for and one that is absolutely stunning. As for that Tiffany's necklace; brilliant!
Emma Stone wore a glittering princess gown from Elie Saab Haute Couture. A choice I never expected from her, but one I am so glad she made. Elie Saab is always a good choice, but I am especially happy that Emma chose this silhouette rather than one of the more out there silhouettes of Elie's collection (I am looking at you JLo).
Margot Robbie walked the carpet in one of my personal favourites: Saint Laurent. The gown is qutie simple, but very beautiful. And Margot can pull of almost anything anyway.
It is impossible for Behati Prinsloo not to look beautiful. Especially not when wearing an exquisite Armani Privé gown.
Jennifer Hudson knows to dress herself and has come a long way since she was a winner herself. This simple yellos Romena Keveza gown works on every level.
Lupita Nyong'o was a vision in Calvin Klein Collection and seems to be back on the fashion track after a few minor mishaps. While Patricia Arquette is now reigning best actress, Lupita definitely outdresses her.
Marion Cotillard did choose for Dior Haute Couture, and while it is quite different from what I expected, I liked this gown very much. I like how it is not your typical Oscar-glam piece, while being perfect for the occasion.
