Sam Smith - Money on my Mind If I had to pick one song this year, it would be Money on my Mind. It will forever more remind me of my 21st birthday at Sam Smith’s concert with my group of international friends. Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX - Fancy became my jam in one of the less fancy places I frequently visited this year; the Paris metro system. MAGIC! - Rude because Magic managed to make reggae enjoyable. Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass The witty lyrics and apparent simplicity are just very nice. Sam Smith - Stay With Me in this song Sam Smith proves he indeed has an Adele-like quality. Coldplay - Sky Full of Stars “The labrador of music” always manages to produce great songs. Clean Bandit Rather Be Electropop with classic elements is rarely as good as this. Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga - Anything Goes I’ve been waiting until Gaga came with a jazz album for quite, it’s a chance for her to show she’s more than the costumes. Beyonce - Partition Beyonce’s self titled album is her best one to date, Partition is just one of a number of great songs on it. Taylor Swift - Blank Space I’m hardly a Taylor Swift fan, but I got to respect her unique selling power and her Blank Space is rather catchy and continuously stuck in my head. Kensington - Streets The very start of this song always knows to cheer me up somehow.
Best of 2014 in Music
Up next is the best of music list. This year there are a bunch of fresh faces (Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea), possible one-hit-wonders (MAGIC, Meghan Trainor, Clean Bandit), one Dutch band (Kensington) and music icons (Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Beyonce, Taylor Swift) who produced my favourite song of the year as well as ten runner-ups. Admittedly though, I missed quite a lot in music this year. I blame it on Paris.
