Music X Rock Werchter's Saturday

Yesterday may sister and I enjoyed a rather rainy day at what's arugably Belgium's most exciting festival and one of the biggest of its kind in Europe (among Glastonbury, Sziget and others): Rock Werchter. We opted for a day ticket, since Saturday's line-up was pretty much perfect for us. At least for me, some of the bands playing, are the ones that are on my personal playlist right now.

We already saw the Irish band perform in Amsterdam half a year ago. Before that performance I had literally heard no song of them. I really liked their music though and started listening after. Right now In A Perfect World is without a doubt one of the most listened albums on my iPhone. Seeing them again was very nice, although I liked their performance in the small Amsterdam venue a bit more than this performance on the main stage. I'd say one of the smaller stages would have been a better fit.

The three Californian sisters that form the group HAIM are so effortlessly (?) cool that you just have to like their performance. Their music is the kind of music that I love listening to while working. The live renditions of the songs were quite a bit different from the studio versions, but very nice and enjoyable anyway. Special words of appreciation go to Este's intense performance faces as well as the way she rocked what looked like a €2000 lace dress.

Imagine Dragons
Without a doubt it was Imagine Dragons performance that I looked forward to the most. About one and a half year ago It's Time instantly became my favourite song after the first time I heard it. The band exceeded expectations though and are by far my favourite of the day. I wasn't the only one enjoying it. The tent in which they played was overpacked, and while Kodaline maybe would have profited from this smaller stage, I think Imagine Dragons should have been on the main stage.

The Black Keys
I thought I liked The Black Keys, as I listened to their El Camino album quite a lot when it first came out about two years ago. It couldn't help me from being rather bored during their performance though. Truth be told, at that point the rain was starting to annoy me, so I guess the over all atmosphere was just less and didn't really help me enjoying their show.

For now I couldn't find videos of the performances at Rock Werchter, so I opted for recent performances of these bands on other festivals.
