Academy Award Predictions 2014

Just like last year, I will post my predictions of some of what some of the most high-profile nominees will be wearing tonight, at the number one Hollywood event of the year. The 86th annual Academy Awards! I've been looking forward to tonight for a looong time. Some of my favourite living actresses are nominated and Ellen Degeneres is hosting the show.

Before I get to the dresses I want to predict some categories too. I guess these people and film will win big tonight: Cate Blanchett (best actress), Matthew McConaughey (best actor), Jennifer Lawrence (best supporting actress), Jared Leto (best supporting actor), Alfonso Cuáron (best director) and Gravity (best picture). Most of these are the actual frontrunners, but Jennifer Lawrence and Gravity are in the two most exciting races of the night. Now the gowns...

Cate Blanchett will be wearing Armani Privé SS14. As the face of Armani's Sí's fragrance, I think Armani Privé is a safe bet, even though she has worn Alexander McQueen, Givenchy and Lanvin to other major Award shows too. I think she'll pick this beautiful regal purple lace gown. I was a little worried it might not work with Cate's skintone, but then I guess the dress can (and will) be altered.
Amy Adams will be wearing Valentino Haute Couture SS14. Adams tends to go all diva/princess to the Academy Awards, but this year she'll stay in her American Hustle character, wearing this beautiful, simple, plunging gown. I think it is appropriate for the Oscars though. And it will match her hair and skintone like no one else.
Sandra Bullock will wear Elie Saab Haute Couture SS14. Sandra has worn black/white/silver to three of the last four ceremonies she attended, I think she will go with black/white/silver this year too. And aged 49, she will be one of the best looking women of the night.
Hollywood's newest it-girl Lupita Nyong'o will be wearing Giambattista Valli Haute Couture SS14. Lupita started off wearing very simple, but colourful and super fashionable gowns to all major Award shows and red carpet events. But when Oscar voting started, she started (tastefully) attention whoring. Remember the beautiful yet dramatic, green Dior gown she wore to the BAFTA's? I think she'll continue the attention seeking trend with this stunning Giambattista Valli gown. White will work so well with her beautiful dark complexion. And whether she'll actually win the Oscar or not, I think she might be the biggest winner of all. Congratulations Lupita, you deserve it.
Jennifer Lawrence obviously wears Christian Dior Haute Couture SS14. Unlike Nyong'o, Jennifer has kept it really low-profile this Award Season. She skipped some award shows (she actually missed herself winning the BAFTA) and barely did interviews and red carpet appearances. After she was arguably the best dressed woman at the SAG's, wearing a sparkly Dior column gown, I think she will wearing another sparkly Dior column gown tonight. That and her fearing another fall on the stairs on a possible way up the stage, made me choose this fun, polka dotted beauty.
