Beautiful Bookstore

As an architecture student, you won't be surprised to hear I love architecture. I love books and magazines too, so when I saw pictures of this breathtaking bookstore in Maastricht (the Netherlands), you will understand how amazed I was. I think it's quite unique to transform a church into a bookstore, especially done this fantastically by Dutch architects Merkx + Girod.

It's fantastic to see how the church is still perfectly recognizable as a church. The original construction isn't touched. I love the contrast between the ancient building and the very modern steel structure, which is placed  in the middle of the nave, to create lots and lots of extra space.

Once, when I'm  finished studying, I'd love to do lots of projects like this one: giving beautiful and unique old buildings an exciting new life.

  1. Thanks for stumbling across my lil blog and taking the time to leave a comment! It made me giggle: I wanted to tell you that I simply HAD to wear a belt AND suspenders, otherwise the waist of the shorts--which normally encircles my hips--would have just been held up and dangling about my waist! It would've looked awful silly (and been a bit...drafty >_<).

Anyway, I'm glad I've come upon your blog! I'll definitely be your newest follower! These pictures of this heavenly (pun intended) bookstore won me over immediately. :)

Great renovation project and just incredible idea to use a old church as a bookstore.
The atmosphere must be brilliant inside.
