New York Fashion Week: Peter Som, Cushnie et Ochs, Jenni Kayne, United Bamboo, Sachin + Babi

Yet another fashion season is presented during the next few days. After Vogue's Fashion's Night Out, the eyes are now all on the runways. What will we see next summer?

I've chosen to review some, at least for me, rather unknown names. OK, I've spoken about Peter Som before, but the rest of these designers are pretty new to me.

Peter Som
I loved Som's summer collection last year and this year again, I like it very much. It's pretty much what we need in summer: bright colours and vivid (Jil Sanderesque) flower prints. This in combination with sixties silhouettes and some feathers totally does it for me.

Cushnie et Ochs
I've never heard of this designer duo before, but they surprised me. With their super sexy, recognisable dresses, with interesting necklines and cutouts, they manage to make me think I've found the next Hervé Leger. I think I'll keep an eye on them!

Jenni Kayne
Another new name for me. Jenni Kayne herself described the collection as "country club chic combined with urban athleticism". I think that captures perfectly what this collection is about. I like it!

United Bamboo
This collection contains, besides lots of beautiful, feminine items, the best tomboy looks I've seen in a while. I love to see women wearing feminine clothing and so often women don't look very feminine anymore in those tomboyish looks. This collection shows you can be very feminine, even when you go for the tomboy look.

Sachin + Babi
If I had to describe this collection in a few words, I would probably something like "girlish with a certain fashion edge". Some of the looks are quite obvious girlish, others are girlish as well, but in another way. I don't really know how to describe it, but even items you wouldn't necessarily call very young, could be worn by young girls. You did a good job Sachin and Babi!
