Paris Fashion Week: Christian Dior and Lanvin

Two of the oldest and most important Parisian fashion houses showed their new spring/summer lines yesterday: Christian Dior and Lanvin. I’ve really been looking forward to these shows. Christian Dior, because I adored the Couture collection last july and Lanvin, because I’m so excited about the H&M collaboration. Oh, and I’m so happy both collections didn’t disappoint!

As I just said and wrote in my Haute Couture post, I absolutely loved the Christian Dior Haute Couture collection. It was so impressive! I was really curious how that outstanding collection would be translated into a “more affordable” prêt-a-porter line. Well, I think Galliano did a good job. There are some obvious references to some of the floral themed pieces of the couture collection, but mostly it’s the bright, happy colours and floral prints that remind of that collection. Even the shoes, which I find amazing, fit in this whole idea of florals perfectly.

The shoes I was talking about:

For some reason I don’t like Lanvin’s menswear collections, though I do like the womenswear collections. That’s so different from most brands. Most of the time I like both the menswear and the womenswear. I mean, look at my reviews of Bottega Veneta and Burberry Prorsum, for example.

Enfin, let’s talk about the newest collection now. My favourite looks were the light, flowing looks. The flowing fabrics make these clothes look suitable for summer. If only those stiffer fabrics were used, this collection would probably haven’t looked like a spring collection, for most of the colours that are used are really dark and autumn like. I personally think the opening look was the best look of this collection and I think the collection would have been even better if the rest of it was more like this first look.
